Senior Natalie Fernandez has taken her game to another level as of late for Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball team. After putting up gaudy numbers last week, she's been deservedly recognized as the Sun Belt Conference player of the week.

How good was Fernandez last week? She went 6-for-6 at the plate last Wednesday in two victories against Sam Houston State, before heading to Georgia State over the weekend and going 5-for-7 at the plate. With a batting average of .786 (11-for-14) and five runs scored, it's no surprise was was honored as POW.

"We've seen seniors get into a zone like this this in the past," head coach Mike Lotief said of Fernandez's play.  "She's gotten a sense of urgency that this is her last season and she is stepping up.  She is also realizing that this is her time to lead and her time to take charge.  She is playing phenomenal softball right now. She knows she has to lead and set the tone."

For the season, Fernandez is batting .517, with 46 hits.

This Wednesday (March 27th), Fernandez and the Ragin' Cajun softball team travels to Houston for a double-header with the Cougars. First pitch is set for 4:00.
