He's been a player for the Ragin' Cajuns.

He's also been a coach.

Now, Gerald Broussard will join the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Radio Network for the 2012 season.

Broussard will serve as color analyst on Cajuns' broadcasts, home and away during the 2012 season.

"When we made the decision to expand our broadcast crew, Gerald was the first person I thought of," play-by-play voice Jay Walker said.  "G knows the game and can bring a new dimension of analysis to our broadcasts."

"I can't tell you how excited I am to be a part of the broadcasts," Broussard said.  "I did the tailgaiting thing for a year and it was fun, but I'm ready to get back to making a contribution to the program."

Broussard will be in the booth with Walker, who will enter his 21st season on Ragin' Cajuns football broadcasts this fall.  Steve Peloquin, who has been in the booth for the last decade, will move to the sidelines and do special reports from the field level.

The three will combine to produce a two-hour pre-game show each week, with the first hour on the Cajuns' flagship station, ESPN1420 and the second hour throughout the seven station Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Radio Network.

Broussard was a three year letterman in the early '80's under Sam Robertson.  He served as a graduate assistant under Robertson and spent thirteen seasons as an assistant under Nelson Stokely from 1986-98, and was an assistant under Rickey Bustle from 2008-10.  Broussard has also served as an assistant coach at West Alabama, Scottsdale CC, Tennessee-Martin, McNeese State and Stephen F. Austin.

The Cajuns open the season under second year head coach Mark Hudspeth on September 1 against the Lamar Cardinals in the annual Herbert Heymann Football Classic at Cajun Field.  Kickoff will be at 6pm, with radio pregame festivities beginning at 4:00.
