UL Women Open Season With Road Win Over Lamar, 75-55
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun women's basketball team won their 2014-2015 season opener on Friday night, recording a 75-55 non-conference road win over the Lamar Cardinals in Beaumont, Texas.
Louisiana led at halftime, 37-32, out-shooting Lamar from the field, 44%-38%, as Keke Veal and Adrienne Prejean eac scored eight points in the half.
The second half was all Cajuns, as they extended their lead to 46-34 at the 16:38 mark, and never looked back, going on to the 20-point win.
UL finished the game out-shooting Lamar from the field, 43%-33%, while finishing with a 43-33 rebound advantage, along with causing 23 turnovers.
Jaylyn Gordon, who scored 18 second half points by going 4-of-5 from beyond the three-point arc, finished with a game-high 22 points for the Cajuns, while Veal added 13 points and five assists, with Gabby Alexander contributing 11 points and eight rebounds.
In a losing cause for the Cardinals, Dominique Edwards scored 20 points.
With the win, Louisiana improved to 1-0 on the season, while Lamar fell to 0-1.
The Cajuns are back in action on Tuesday night, when they host Xavier (La.).
