UL Softball Loses Doubleheader To Florida St.
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns suffered a couple of setbacks on Wednesday.
The 18-ranked Cajuns were swept by the 9th-ranked Florida St. Seminoles in a non-conference doubleheader in Tallahassee, Florida.
Florida St. won the opening game in 5-inning mercy-rule fashion, 8-0, before also taking the nightcap, 7-1.
The two wins by the Seminoles snapped a 6-game losing streak against the Cajuns, which dated back to 2006.
In the opener, Florida St. got on the scoreboard first, plating a run in the bottom half of the first inning, when Cali Harrod belted a solo home run, her 4th of the season, to give them a quick 1-0 lead.
The Seminoles added four more runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning, including an RBI triple by Leslie Farris and a run-coring double off the bat of Harrod, to widen their advantage to 5-0.
FSU pushed across another run in the bottom half of the third inning, when Elizabeth Mason singled, before later scoring on a groundball off the bat of Zoe Casas, to make it 5-0.
The Seminoles ended things in the bottom half of the 5th inning, scoring twice, courtesy of a run-scoring single by Warren and an RBI single off the bat of Cases, to help propel them to the 5-inning mercy-rule triumph.
Florida St., who outhit Louisiana, 12-2, was led at the plate by Harrod, who went 3-for-3, to go along with a double, a triple, a homer, two runs scored, and two runs batted in.
Alissa Dalton, who went 2-for-2, recorded the only two hits for the Cajuns.
Kylee Hanson (17-3) picked-up the win in the circle for the Seminoles, allowing no runs on two hits in 5 innings.
Casey Dixon (6-2) suffered the loss for Louisiana, allowing three runs on four hits over 1.2 innings.

In the second game, Florida St. again grabbed the early lead, scoring a run in the bottom half of the first inning, when Carsyn Gordon doubled, and then later scored on a two-out single off the bat of Elizabeth Mason, to grab a quick 1-0 advantage.
Louisiana tied things in the top half of the 4th inning, when Lexie Comeaux doubled with two outs, before scoring on a two-out single off the bat of Kourtney Gremillion, to even the game, 1-1.
The Seminoles took the lead for good in the bottom half of the 4th inning, when Elizabeth Mason singled, and later scored on an obstruction call while in a rundown, to give them a 2-1 lead.
Florida St. added two more runs in the bottom half of the 5th inning, on back-to-back two-out singles by Mason and Zoe Casas, to extend their advantage to 4-1.
FSU put the game away with three insurance runs in the bottom half of the 6th inning, on a three-run homer by Sherrill, her 7th of the season, to make it 7-1.
That would be all Florida St. would need, as they went on to the 6-run win, and the twinbill sweep.
Florida St., who outhit Louisiana, 7-5, was paced at the plate by Mason, who went 3-or-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in, as well as Sherrill, who went 2-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI's.
Lexie Comeaux led UL at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Kourtney Gremillion drove in the only run off the game, and the only one of the day.
Meghan King (13-3) recorded the win inside of the circle for the Seminoles, allowing only one run on 5 hits over 7.0 innings inside of the circle.
Summer Ellyson (12-5) suffered the loss for the Cajuns, allowing 7 runs on 7 hits in 5.2 innings of work.

With the two wins, Florida St. improved to 31-6 on the season, while Louisiana dropped to 23-9.
The Cajuns return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Atlanta, Georgia to face the Georgia St. Panthers in a Sun belt Conference doubleheader.
First-pitch for game one is scheduled for noon.
