Louisiana's nationally ranked softball team suffered a huge blow when it was learned that sophomore DP Taryn Broussard suffered a broken ankle in the Cowgirl Classic last weekend and will be sidelined at least a month.

Broussard, who began her career at Texas A&M, suffered the injury while sliding into third base against Jackson State.  Surgery was performed yesterday.

The 5-10 Broussard, who received a medical redshirt last season after undergoing an appendectomy,  was batting .400 on the season with five homers and 17 rbi.

The loss comes at a crucial time for the Cajuns, who travel to Kissimmee, FL this weekend for the Citrus Classic.  Broussard will also miss the league opener at North Texas and the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, CA.

The 21 year old Broussard is a native of Lake Jackson, Texas.
