New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees remains day to day with a bruised right rotator cuff, keeping his status for Sunday's game in Carolina in question.

Brees said yesterday he would start against the Panthers if he could be effective.

Brees was limited in practice again today, with no updates given from the team on whether or not he threw the football. He did not throw the ball at Wednesday's practice.

Joining Brees on the "limited at practice" list Thursday was safety Jairus Byrd (knee), who took part in the early portions of practice, but sat out team drills. Byrd has not played since week 4 of last season.

Wide receiver Brandin Cooks (pictured left) did not practice during team drills as he continues to deal with an ankle injury, but insisted to the media that he will play Sunday.

Cornerback Keenan Lewis (hip), who underwent hip surgery a month ago, was limited Thursday, but upgraded from his status on Wednesday by practicing on a limited basis in both individual and team drills.

Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (toe) was limited as well, while guard Jahri Evans (knee) was not in attendance today. Evans did not participate in practice yesterday.

New Orleans (0-2) travels to Carolina (2-0) on Sunday in desperate need of a victory. Kickoff is set for noon.
