NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is resisting requested deposition from Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma and his lawyer in their defamation of character lawsuit against him.

Goodell maintains he has the right to refuse the requested deposition until after U.S. District Judge Ginger Berrigan rules on her motion to dismiss the defamation action lawsuit.

Peter Ginsberg, Vilma's lawyer, claims Goodell has no right of refusal because he has no basis to stop the request, nor the request for information from Gregg Williams and Mike Cerullo.

Ginsberg and Vilma requested deposition for Cerullo on October 9, Williams 6 days later, and Goodell on October 23.
