Ragin’ Cajun PG Elfrid Payton Named LABC Major College Player Of The year
After declaring for the NBA draft and racking up a ton of awards, Ragin' Cajun point guard Elfrid Payton needs to make room for another honor.
Payton has been named the LABC (Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches) as the major college player of the year, receiving the prestigious "Pete Maravich Memorial Award".
Payton will be presented the award next Saturday, May 3rd, at the LABC's 40th Annual Awards Banquet in Baton Rouge.
Lettering all 3 years at Louisiana, Payton made quite an impact. Last season, he was the only player in Division I NCAA basketball who averaged 19 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. He was named the Sun Belt Conference defensive player of the year, and was one of ten D1 players this season to register a triple-double.
In addition, the Sun Belt Conference defensive player of the year has been honored with numerous awards, including the renowned Left Driesell Award, which is presented to the top defensive player in the nation.
