Panthers Claim Former Saints’ Tight End Off Waivers
A former New Orleans Saints' tight end has found a new home.
Chris Manhertz, who was released by the Saints on Saturday, was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers on Monday.
Manhertz, a former college basketball player at Canisius, spent time on the Saints' practice squad in 2015, before making the Saints' active roster to begin this season.
Inactive in the season opener against the Raiders, the 6-foot-6, 255-ound Manhertz played in the games over the next three weeks, totaling 43 offensive snaps, along with 25 on special teams, but did not record a regular-season catch.
With back-up tight end Josh Hill returning from injury last week, Manhertz' chances of sticking around were slim.
By releasing Manhertz, the Saints were also able to sign wide receiver Jake Lampman from the practice squad to the active roster.
The Saints, who are currently 2-3 on the season, return to action on Sunday afternoon, when they travel to Kansas City, Missouri to take on the Kansas City Chiefs.
