The NFL decided to make their most boring play, the extra point, a bit more interesting by pushing it back and opening up the scoring for defenders.

Extra point attempts will now be spotted at the 15 yard line, making it approximately a 32 or 33 yard attempt. It might not seem like a large difference, but NFL kickers were only 95.3 (163-171) percent accurate from 30-35 yards last year. The previous accuracy rate for PAT's was over 99 percent. A four percent difference will certainly be enough to make coaches think about it, especially in bad weather.

Not only will the kick attempt be pushed back, defenses will be able to score on two point conversion attempts. Before, interceptions and fumbles simply resulted in a dead play. Now offenses will be made to pay for risky decisions to the tune of two points. Scoop and scores or interception returns from 98 yards out are pure entertainment. Well done, NFL.

Chip Kelly and the Eagles, along with Bill Belichick and other aggressive coaches, are sure to explore the two point conversion option more with the PAT pushed back. Defenses will be able to punch back. Hypothetically, everybody wins.

Mediocre kickers will be exposed. Elite level performers will be rewarded. This should make the position battles in camp way more interesting. Any idea who will be doing the duties in New Orleans?
