Former College, NFL Star Bubba Smith Found Dead

Charles "Bubba" Smith, who led Michigan State to a 19-1-1 record over two years and played in two Super Bowls was found dead yesterday at his home.  He was 66.

Coroner's office officials said cause of death was unknown, but added the death did not appear to be suspicious.

Smith, who was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, was a feared defensive end who played at Michigan State under Duffy Daugherty.  He played in the famous 10-10 tie with Notre Dame back in 1966 when the teams were ranked 1-2 in the country.

Smith played for the Baltimore Colts, Oakland Raiders and Houston Oilers in the NFL.  He won a Super Bowl ring in 1971 when the Colts beat the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl V.  He was also a member of the Colts in their loss to Joe Namath and the Jets in Super Bowl III.

Smith became an actor after his playing days were finished and starred in the "Police Academy" movies.  He was also a part of the groundbreaking Miller Lite commercials featuring retired players.
