Five Intriguing Games This Weekend – From the Bird’s Nest
There may not be the marquee games this week that we had last week (Thanks Georgia and Notre Dame), but there are still a few good ones to keep an eye on this weekend.
ARIZONA STATE (3-1, 0-1) (+4') at (15) CAL (4-0, 1-0) FRIDAY 6:30 ESPN--Cal is ranked thanks to their one point upset win at Washington. But the rest of that schedule? A six point win over North Texas and an eight point win at Ole Miss. Hardly the thing top 15 teams are made of. They may get it done at home this week, but this is a pretty shaky team in my opinion.
BYU (2-2) (-2') at TOLEDO (2-1) 11:00 am ESPN+--BYU has played four Power Five teams and their win over USC at home is impressive. But their road performances have not been. I like this Toledo team. I think they might be the best team in the MAC. They've bounced back nicely after their loss to Kentucky and they're usually tough to beat in the Glass Bowl...especially with an extra week to prepare.
AKRON (0-4) (-7) at UMASS (0-4) 2:30 FloSports--Now, how can this game only be on a stream. How can ESPN or FOX or CBS or ABC not pick this up. Boggles my mind. These two are the "top" two in ESPN's Bottom Ten this week...yet the game gets ignored by the networks. That's right. A matchup of #1 vs. #2. Once again, prejudice against the Group of Five schools.
(24) KANSAS STATE (3-0, 0-0) (+4') AT OKLAHOMA STATE (3-1, 0-1) 6:00 pm ESPN--Cowboys certainly were competitive in their loss to Texas last week, while the WIldcats had the week off to prepare. Mike Gundy is getting testy with the media in Stillwater again and that usually bodes pretty well for the Orange and Black. Dude, if you don't want questions about your hair, cut it.
WASHINGTON STATE (3-1, 0-1) (+5') at UTAH (3-1, 0-1) 9:00 pm FS1--The over/under in this game is 57, which is fewer than half the points scored last week (130) when Washington State played UCLA. I guess Utah's defense is better, eh? This is probably a Pac-12 elimination game. Neither team can afford another league loss...but someone's going to get one.
