Cajuns Run Away From Louisiana College 113-58
Sophomore P. J. Hardy led six players in double figures as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns raced past an outmanned Louisiana College squad, 113-58 Tuesday night at the Cajundome.
But it was more than just the scoring that drew praise from Ragin' Cajuns head coach Bob Marlin.
"He was more than just a shooter. He led us in assists (5), he led us in steals (3) and he rebounded a little," Marlin said. "(I'm) really happy for him."
Hardy made 7-11 shots from the field, including 5-8 from three point range as the Cajuns hit 13-26 from beyond the arc.
JaKeenan Gant scored 17 points and hauled in a team-high nine rebounds and blocked four shots. Freshman Cedric Russell scored 15 points, including four triples, while Frank Bartley added 14, with Justin Miller and Bryce Washington chipped in 12 points apiece.
The Cajuns shot 60.9% from the field, including 20-30 from the field in the second half, while holding the visitors to 37.8 percent on the night. The Cajuns outrebounded the visitors 39-21 and forced 30 turnovers on the night.
Leading 11-6 at the 15:41 mark, Louisiana then went on a 21-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 32-8 lead and led 57-25 at the half. The Cajuns forced 19 first half turnovers and held the visitors to just seven field goals in the first 20 minutes.
The Cajuns played without guard Johnathan Stove, who was injured yesterday in practice. He is also expected to miss Friday's game against Savannah State. All eleven players in uniform played at least 13 minutes and all got into the scoring column.
The Cajuns host Savannah State Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm at the Cajundome.
