2012 AMA Supercross Report
Series – Round 2 from Phoenix, Arizona

Last week in Round 1 of the AMA Supercross Series RyanVillopoto dominated, and rode like a champ, taking the lead from the very beginning and never letting off the gas!

According to Villopoto, getting a good start and being consistent is the name of the game, as well as the key to staying on the podium.

Ryan Dungey didn’t get the finish the way he wanted, but at least he made the podium. His goal from here on out is to get started on the right foot, put himself in a good position and to win races.

Chad Reed battled it out with Dungey and Stewart and came out with a second place finish.

According to Reed, everyone wants to win that first race but it’s the Championship race that you really
want to win.

Reed says he's happy with the points that he got last week but now he’ll focus week-to-week and try to win some races.

James Stewart made things interesting for Dungey and Reed last week but ended up being taken out of the
race by neither.

After tangling with a tough box, Stewart finished the race in sixth.

Can this be his comeback night?

He hopes so. Last week was disappointing for the rider but will making changes to his bike setup be the key to a win?

In the Lite’s class Cole Seely took first place, but Seely doesn’t just want to win races, he wants to win championships.

Can he pull two wins in a row?

Seely says that he learned a lot from last year, and apparently attitude has something to do with winning.

He tries not to become cocky or over-confident, but rather focuses on being consistent.

Dean Wilson was in the same boat as Stewart was last week, disappointed.

Arm pump had the young rider not riding like himself.

It’s a new week and a new race; can he turn things around and pull out a win?

Wilson mirrors Villopoto in saying that it’s all about the start.

“It’s all about the start,” says Villopoto.

You hear that a lot from racers, but is it true?

Does getting a good start mean a top finish?

My opinion?...It sure can’t hurt! But if you are a "beast", if you read my last article you’d
know what I’m talking about, a good start isn’t always necessary.

Here’s a rundown of this weekend’s Supercross races:

250 Main Event Recap
(15 laps):

It was a good battle from the beginning, but Wilson was able to take the lead.

Seely who won last week, didn’t fare so well, back in eighth position.

By lap six Wilson had a 2.5 second lead on Marvin Musquin.

Tyla Rattray followed in third.

At this point, Seely has worked his way up to fifth
from eighth.

On lap ten, Wilson extends his lead to 6 seconds, followed by Musquin, who is still in second, followed by Rattray.

Seely is able to move into fourth, but when lap eleven comes around the battle for fourth is on.

Tomac passes Seely and holds onto that fourth position.

Checkers fly and here are the results:
1)---Dean Wilson

2)---Marvin Musquin

3)---Tyla Rattay

Wilson was happy to get a good start. Despite having a head
cold he was able to ride the best he could and will try to do the same thing
again next week.

Supercross Main Event
Recap (20 laps):

The gates drop and Ryan Dungey takes the lead, followed by Jake Weimer, and Kevin Windham.

Last week’s winner, Ryan Villopoto goes down and ends up dead last.

Go ahead and read that again! He’s dead last; he did not get a good start!!

Keep that in mind.

The top runners are able to get into a nice rhythm and hold their positions. Lap seven brings on a battle between Stewart and Reed, no surprise there.

No amount of tweaking or tuning of the bike keeps Stewart from going down in the sand on lap eight.

Someone please strap Bubba to that bike!!!

If he’s not tangling with a tough box he’s getting taken out by quick sand.

What was a two way battle between Stewart and Reed turns into a three way battle between Reed, Villopoto
and Metcalfe for sixth place.

Villopoto comes out victorious and moves onto the next. He is able to go by Trey Canard and Andrew Short which puts him in fourth but he doesn’t stop there.

On the last lap Villopoto catches and passes Kevin Windham and takes third.

Checkers fly and here are the results:

1)---Ryan Dungey

2)---Jake Weimer

3)---Ryan Villopoto, who was dead last at the end of
lap one!!!

When you are a beast, starts are important but obviously not necessary.

Ryan Dungey – won his first Supercross Main event of the
season and KTM’s first ever Supercross Main Event!

Dungey gave credit to his team, and said he was able to get a good start and put in nice laps.

Round 3 of the AMA Supercross series will take place Jan 21
in Dodger Stadium – Los Angeles, CA
