In perhaps his last World Cup appearance, U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard played like a champion. As the U.S. lost a heartbreaker to Belgium 2-1 in the knockout round of 16, Howard's performance will still be regarded as one of the best by a goalkeeper in the history of the World Cup.

His 16 saves are the most single-game saves in a World Cup match since Fifa began keeping track of the stat in 1966. Howard certainly hasn't played his last soccer game, but at 35 years old, it's hard to imagine him suiting up in 2018 for the United States in Russia.

Howard leaves behind a legacy as the U.S. goalkeeper, with his performance today being right at the top of it.
