The New Orleans Pelicans fall to 9th place in the West after falling at home in double overtime to the Denver Nuggets 118-111.

Anthony Davis did his part for New Orleans, putting together an absurd stat line of 36 points, 14 rebounds, 9 blocks and 7 assists, but it wasn't enough to make up for the Pelicans mistakes.

"It's a tough loss, especially in the position we're in," Davis said. "We have to move on and get ready for our next game."

New Orleans turned it over 19 times, leading to 27 Denver points. In addition, the Pelicans went 13-21 at the free throw line, and shot 6-22 from three point range.

"It’s tough when you play that hard, but you don’t that play that well, and come up short," said Davis, who played a game-high 50 minutes.

In the final minute of regulation, the Pelicans led by 2 on 3 occasions, but defensive breakdowns led to easy layups by Kenneth Faried and Jameer Nelson, helping Denver force overtime.

With a 3 point lead in the first overtime at the 15 second mark, the Pelicans gave up an uncontested three by Will Barton, leading to the second overtime when the Nuggets took over.

"I felt like we had the game in our hands and we gave up a 3," New Orleans head coach Monty Williams said. "There are a lot of things to look at and it's certainly a growth moment for us. I didn't think our mentality was where it needed to be."

With the loss, the Pelicans fall to 36-30 overall, one game behind the Oklahoma City Thunder who sit in 8th place in the Western Conference.

Next up for New Orleans, a home matchup Tuesday night versus the Milwaukee Bucks (34-32). Tip-off is set for 7:00.
