New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis put together a memorable performance in the season opener at home Wednesday night. Unfortunately, it came in a 107-102 loss to the Denver Nuggets.

Davis had 50 points, 16 rebounds, 7 steals, 5 assists and 4 blocks, getting it done in every facet of the game. However, it came in defeat, something Anthony was naturally unhappy about.

"It was tough, we had some chances but missed too many easy looks," said Davis of the loss. "We've got to learn from (the loss) and get ready for Friday."

For historical reference, Davis is the first player in NBA history with 45+ points, 15+ rebounds, 5+ assists and 5+ steals in a single game.

Going 17-34 from the field, Davis didn't get enough help from his teammates, who finished the night 21-58.

As a team, New Orleans was a paltry 3-19 from beyond the arc. Conversely, the Nuggets shot 8-24 from three point range.

Ultimately, Denver's three point shooting and size proved to be the difference, as they out rebounded the Pelicans 58 to 34.

"I thought early on, they pounded us a little bit on the inside with their big guys," said New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry. "We gave up too many baskets in the paint early on."

Denver built a 14 point lead in the first half, forcing the Pelicans to play catch up.

"We just got down early, that was the main thing," noted Pelicans forward Solomon Hill. "We just have to come out stronger, especially when A.D. has got it going like that."

Without Jrue Holiday for an undetermined amount of time, New Orleans started Tim Frazier at point guard, as expected.

Frazier performed well, chipping in a double-double (15 points, 11 assists) for the home team.

Lance Stephenson led New Orleans off the bench with 8.

The Pelicans upcoming weekend slate gets tougher, with a home game Friday night against the defending Western Conference champion Golden State Warriors, followed by a Saturday road game against the San Antonio Spurs, who defeated the Warriors on Tuesday.
