My grandparents took me and a friend to an Astros versus Dodgers game at the old Astrodome when I was a kid. I don't remember much about the trip, but I do recall how badly I wanted to go home with a baseball.

Foul ball? Home run ball? It didn't matter. I just wanted a game-used baseball. It didn't happen.

If I caught a ball today at an MLB game, I doubt I'd have the same vigorous excitement I would've had 30 years ago.

Watching a kid euphorically react to grabbing a foul ball in Baltimore last night brought me back to my childhood, and the legit enthusiasm I had in my hopes to do the same.

The pure, unadulterated joy of that young Orioles fan is something we didn't know we needed until we saw it.
