Serena Survives Serve to Win at U. S. Open
Serena Williams admitted she was tight.
Williams double faulted four times in her match with Dutch qualifier Kiki Bertens, but survived a rocky first set en route to a 7-6, 6-3 win to move into the third round of the U. S. Open, where she is the three time defending champion.
Williams was down 0-4 in the first set tiebreaker before ripping off seven of the next eight points. She will face fellow American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in her next match.
Williams has now won 30 consecutive Grand Slam matches.
