Royals Take Game One Of World Series, Defeat Mets In 14 Innings, 5-4

The Kansas City Royals won the opening game of the 2015 Major League Baseball World Series on Tuesday night, defeating the New York Mets, 4-1, in 14 innings, at Kauffman, Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Trailing, 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Royals scored two runs in the bottom of the frame to tie the game, 3-3.

After the Mets scored a run in the top half of the eighth, to take a 4-3 lead, Alex Gordon hit a solo home run in the bottom half of the ninth inning to tie it once again.

Kansas City won it in the bottom of the 14th innings, courtesy of a sacrifice fly off the bat of Eric Hosmer.

The Royals lead the best-of-seven game series, 1-0.

Game two is scheduled for Wednesday evening in Kansas City, with first-pitch scheduled for 7:07 pm.
