School bells will be ringing across South Louisiana over the next two weeks and eventually, the oppressive heat of Summer will yield to the slightly less oppressive heat of fall. That means now is the time for parents and kids to begin choosing fall sports activities through Lafayette's Parks and Recreation Department.

Registration for several activities is already underway. The fall programs include tackle and flag football. volleyball, fast-pitch softball, and baseball. Proof of age and residency is required before a child may register for any Lafayette Parks & Recreation league.

The football programs being offered include tackle for ages 9-13 and flag football for ages 7-16. The age limits for fast-pitch softball are ages 8-15. For baseball the age limits are 8-13. The volleyball program is available to kids ages 7-17.

Parents interested in signing up a child for these leagues may do so at any of the six volunteer Youth Associations in the parish. Those associations are:

BPA (Brown Park Athletics)
CSA (Cajun Sports Association) includes former BYYA(Broussard/Youngsville) Members.
CAYSI (Carencro Area Youth Sports, Inc.)
SATS (Scott Area Team Sports)
SLYSI (Southwest Lafayette Youth Sports, Inc.)
SWA (SouthWest Athletics)

If you have any questions about the fall programs or how to register you may call Lafayette Parks and Recreation at 337-291-8362. Registration for these fall programs will close on Monday, August 19, 2019.
