Red Sox Defeat Cardinals, 4-2, Even World Series

The win evens up the best-of-seven game series, 2-2.

St. Louis Jumped on top in the bottom of the third inning, when Carlos Beltran singled off of Boston starter Clay Buchholz, scoring Matt Carpenter, to make it 1-0.

The Red Sox tied things up in the top of the fifth inning, when Stephen Drew lofted a sacrifice fly to left-field off of Cardinals' starter Lance Lynn, scoring David Oritz, to knot the score, 1-1.

Boston grabbed the lead in the top of the sixth inning, when Jonny Gomes blasted a three-run home run, giving the visitors a 4-1 advantage, a lead which they would not relinquish.

St. Louis drew closer in the bottom of the seventh, when Carpenter singled to right, scoring Shane Robinson, to close the gap to 4-2.

The Cardinals had the potential tying run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, in the person of Beltran, but pinch runner Kolten Wong was picked off of first base by Red Sox closer Koji Uehara to end the game.

Ortiz led Boston at the plate, going 3-for-3, while Gomes was responsible for the difference in the game, the three-run home run.

In a losing cause for the Cardinals, Carpenter was 2-for-5, with a run scored, and an RBI.

Felix Doubront picked-up the win in relief, with Uehara recording the save, while Lynn suffered the loss.

Game five is scheduled for Monday night, at 7:07 pm (cdt), in St. Louis.

Jon Lester will get the start for the Red Sox, while the Cardinals will counter with Adam Wainwright.

The series then shifts to Boston for game six on Wednesday night.

Game seven, if necessary, would also be held in Boston on Thursday night.
