Carolina Panthers All-Pro defensive tackle Kawaan Short is a staple of their defense. A star player with multiple Pro Bowl appearances, who has spent his entire career in Carolina since being drafted in 2013.

Today, he was placed on injured reserve with a torn rotator cuff. He will miss the remainder of the season.

"KK has done everything he could possibly do to try to play these past two games," Panthers general manager Michael Hurney said in a statement, "but we have made the decision that it is in the best long-term interest of KK and the team that he undergo surgery to fix his shoulder and focus on his rehab and get ready for next season."

Short signed a five-year, $80.5 million contract two years ago.
