New York Jets Decide On Todd Bowles As Head Coach
The New York Jets decided on Todd Bowles to be their next head coach on Tuesday night.
The Jets, who will be giving Bowles a reported four-year, $16 million contract, reportedly selected Bowles over Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
The 51-year old Bowles spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals, where his defenses ranked 6th (317.4 yards-per-game in 2013) and 24th (368.2 yards-per-game in 2014) in total defense.
Prior to his tenure with the Cardinals, Bowles was the defensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012, after spending the 2008-2011 seasons with the Miami Dolphins, where he was assistant head coach/secondary coach.
After an 8-year playing career, which included stints with the Washington Redskins (1986-1990, 1992-1993) and San Francisco 49ers (1991), Bowles began his coaching career with stops in the college ranks at Morehouse College (1997) and Grambling St. (1998-1999), prior to his jump to the NFL ranks in 2000 with the Jets.
Bowles has also worked as an assistant coach with the Cleveland Browns (2001-2004)and Dallas Cowboys (2005-2007).
Replacing Rex Ryan, who guided the Jets to an overall record of 46-50 over six seasons, Bowles will become the 16th full-time head coach in Jets' team history.
