Max Sherzer Gave His Dad No Hitter For Father’s Day

What did you give your Dad for Father's Day? Max Sherzer gave his a no hitter. He was one out away from a perfect game. Overachiever.

No hitters are insanely hard to achieve. Perfect games are almost like unicorns. Possibly the most dominant pitcher in the game owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, and his Washington Nationals team won, 6-0. Not a bad present to give to Pops.

Since he wasn't able to pitch on Father's Day, he made sure his parents were in the stands a day early. Sherzer struck out 10 batters and retired 26 straight before hitting Jose Tabata with a pitch. He ended the game the very next at bat, with a no-hitter to share with his Dad. That's a little better of a gift than a nice pair of socks.

"That's what my dad wanted," Sherzer said. "He doesn't want a tie. I gave him a no-hitter, so he's pretty happy."

Sherzer's 1.76 ERA is the best in the bigs this season, and some say he holds the claim for best arm in the game. One thing is for sure, he's making Dad proud.
