In the longest match in Australian Open history, Novak Djokovic outlasted Rafael Nadal 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-5 to take home the Australian Open championship. In a 5 hour, 53-minute endurance contest, Djokovic proved once again why he's the best tennis player on the planet.

Not only was the match the longest in Aussie Open history, but it was the longest Grand Slam singles final in the history of pro tennis. Djokovic overcame a break in the fifth set to win his fifth Grand Slam tournament and third in a row.

With the win, the 24-year-old Djokovic joins Rod Laver, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer and Nadal as the only men who have won three consecutive majors in the Open Era.
