Anthony Davis Tells Pelicans Fans, “It’s Just My Time”
New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis, who has requested a trade out of New Orleans, met with the media today for 14 minutes, making his first public comments since news broke on Monday he wanted out.
Based on tweets and reports from Pelican beat writers Andrew Lopez and Scott Kushner, Davis consistently said, "It's my time".
When pressed why he didn't think he could win in New Orleans, Davis responded with, "It's just my time". He went on to say the Pelicans lack of success during his time with the team was mainly due to injuries.
NBA rumors are running rampant that Davis' preferred destination is the Los Angels Lakers, where he could team up with LeBron James. James long time friend and agent Rich Paul also represents Davis, who signed with the Paul run Klutch Sports last summer.
Davis denied that he ever told the Pelicans he had a specific timeline of when or where he preferred to be traded.
The trade deadline is February 7th. If he's not dealt before then, he can't be traded until the offseason.
David, who has missed the last several games with an injured finger, said he intends to play when healthy, but it's the Pelicans right to choose whether or not to do so.
Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said the team is undecided on whether or not they'll play Davis again this season.
If he were to suffer a serious injury, it would severely hinder his future, as well as the Pelicans who are hoping to get the best trade value possible in return for a top 5 talent like Davis.
He added he hopes the city of New Orleans and Pelicans fans will always love him, as he'll always have a place in his heart for them.
