Anthony Davis Named 1st Team All-NBA, Now Eligible For Super Max Contract
New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis was named 1st Team All-NBA today for the third time in his career.
Joining him on the 1st Team are Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant, Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James, Houston Rockets guard James Harden and Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard.
What does it mean for his contract?
He's now eligible for the super max contract from the New Orleans Pelicans after earning All-NBA honors 2 of the last 3 years.
A super max is a contract extension for select players who meet the eligible criteria. Davis just met it.
This makes him eligible to ink the largest contract in NBA history in the summer of 2019 with an extension. If he were to sign a super max with the Pelicans, his contract extension would be worth approximately $230 million. The cap hit in 2020-21 would be at $39.7 million.
Davis is not eligible to sign a super max deal with another team.
When you're the greatest player in franchise history and one of the best players on the planet, it's a price the Pelicans would gladly agree to if Davis wants it, as it would lock him up in a Pelicans uniform long term.
Yesterday, Davis was named All-NBA Defensive 1st team, along with teammate Jrue Holiday.
AD is also currently one of three finalists for league MVP and Defensive Player of the Year.
