Over 8,000 miles away from New Orleans, NBA superstar Anthony Davis officially signed the richest contract in NBA history with the Pelicans.

On the top floor of the Ritz-Carlton in Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong, Davis inked the 5-year, approximately $145 million contract extension that runs through 2020, with a player option in the 5th year.

Working on a promotional Nike tour, Davis is enjoying his time in China, but made sure to share a message through an article on the Pelicans website.

"Thanks to the Pelicans organization and all my fans across the world, China and the United States and especially New Orleans...I'm here for six more years. Let's win some championships. Go Pels!"

Late last night, the team issued a press release with more reaction from Davis, as well as general manager Dell Demps.

“I am very excited to continue to play for the Pelicans and remain a proud resident of the city of New Orleans,” said Davis in the release. “I want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Benson, Dell Demps, Coach Gentry, the entire Pelicans’ organization, my agent Thad Foucher, my family and, of course, all of the incredible fans for their unwavering support. I look forward to many great years together.”

Demps was almost at a loss for words...almost.

“Words cannot describe the excitement of the New Orleans Pelicans to have Anthony Davis as the cornerstone of our organization,” said Demps. “Anthony is a great person, a phenomenal player and the ideal representative of his family, the Pelicans and the New Orleans community. We are thrilled to have Anthony commit to the Pelicans as we continue to build our team to have sustained success.”

In addition to Davis, the Pelicans officially signed centers Omer Asik and Alexis Ajinca, as well as forward Dante Cunningham.

All four signings were expected after each player verbally agreed to a contract last week. However, players cannot officially sign deals until the NBA moratorium period ended last night at 11:01 pm central time.
