"MVP!" chants rained throughout the Smoothie King Center Monday night when New Orleans Pelicans All-Star Anthony Davis stepped to the free throw line in the 4th quarter of a 125-116 win over the Phoenix Suns.

Davis sunk two free throws, then threw down a put back dunk a few minutes later to give him 53 points and 18 rebounds on the night, sealing the win for the home team, their 6th consecutive victory. He also added 5 blocks.

"We're playing with a lot of confidence right now," said Davis after the win. "When we play with this kind of effort, we can beat anybody."

Davis deflected praise when asked about his stat line, electing to focus on his teammates.

"We're playing with a lot of confidence right now," added Davis. "When we play with this kind of effort, we can beat anybody."

New Orleans struggled in the first half defensively, giving up 65 points to Phoenix. The second half was a different story, as the Pelicans won the 3rd quarter by 14.

"We're playing hard," said head coach Alvin Gentry. "We're competing and we're playing together."

The 6 game winning streak is the longest since the 2010-2011 season. Current Pelicans center Emeka Okafor, who signed a contract to keep him with the team for the rest of the season today, was on that New Orleans Hornets squad.

Okafor chipped in with 14 points and 4 rebounds. Jrue Holiday added 20 points and 7 assists.

Next up for New Orleans (34-26), a road trip to San Antonio (36-25) for a divisional showdown against the Spurs. Tip-off is set for 7:30.
