Drivers on the Causeway bridge thought they encountered a pop-up shower.

Little did they know that the stuff that was hitting their windshields like rain was actually swarms of bugs plastering to their front ends. WWL reported that the groups of bugs were so thick that drivers literally thought it was raining this past Saturday night.

The bugs that were hitting their cars are actually called midges. They're small, they don't bite, and experts say the massive swarms are connected to the water conditions from the spillway opening. From motorists to the Causeway management, many say this was the worst they've ever seen.

The swarms were so bad, even police offered water to clear off the bugs for those who were out of wiper fluid.

The one bright spot (if you can even call it that) was the car washes on the other side of the bridge stayed EXTRA busy.
