The St. Thomas More Cougars were looking to come into the Division II state title game to get quick scores and lock down on defense in order to win. They were able to defeat University High 65-55 after a great shooting night.

The Cougars got out to a quick 9-0 lead in the first quarter after some quick shots and good defensive stops. The Cubs of U-High went on a 7-0 run lead to get back in the game to make it a 9-7 lead before STM made a 3 point shot to stop the run. The Cougars were able to hold a 14-7 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

The 2nd quarter was pretty much the same as the 1st quarter as STM was able to play good defense and increase their lead to double-digits. The Cougars depth was a big problem for the University High Cubs as the Cougars had only one starter in the game late in the 1st half and they weren't able to keep up.  Coach Danny Broussard talked about the depth and wanting to keep attacking  in the 2nd half "It's been that way all year...We got to keep going and keep attacking."

The Cougars dominance continued in the 3rd quarter just like coach Broussard wanted them to do as they were able to hold the Cubs to 29 points in the 3rd quarter. The Cougars held a 43-29 lead going into the 4th quarter.

The Cougars struggled a little bit in the 4th and final quarter as they allowed the Cubs to get within single digits before finally finishing it off in the final minute to win 65-55 and capture their 3rd state championship in school history. for a team that has always been good that's a testament to the kids that Coach Broussard has coached and how great of a coach he is. He talked about his team after the big win as he said, "We didn't finish the game real well but what a great feeling for the kids, I'm so proud of what they did all year long."
