Rutgers has fired their head basketball coach after a video was released showing him shoving players, throwing balls at them and using a gay slur.

Mike Rice was let go amid the firestorm that ensued when ESPN's Outside the Lines broadcast the video Tuesday.

Rice had an impromptu press conference apologizing for his actions.

Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti received a copy of the tape from a former employee back in late November.  He suspended Rice for three games and ordered him to attend anger management classes.  Pernetti now says he was wrong in trying to rehabilitate Rice

In the tape, Rice can be heard cursing players, throwing basketballs at their torsos and legs and using a gay slur..
