NFL Laments Lack of Diversity in Hiring

Eight new coaches have been hired by NFL teams since the season ended.

They all have one thing in common:  None of them are minorities.

And, the National Football League wants to look into it.

All eight teams operated under the rules, specifically, the Rooney Rule, which guarantees interview opportunities to minorities.  And, therefore the NFL wants to look more closely and perhaps put more steps in the process to guarantee equal access.

Two of the fired coaches, Chicago's Lovie Smith and Kansas City's Romeo Crennel, are African-American.

The last African-American hire that wasn't promoted from within the organization was Mike Tomlin of Pittsburgh.
