MLB: One Week Left, Not Much to Be Decided

There's just one week left in the Major League Baseball regular season and, unlike many seasons since the second Wild Card was added, there really isn't a lot to be decided.

Here's a look at what left to be decided:

AMERICAN LEAGUE:  Two division winners (Cleveland, Houston) have been decided.  Boston leads the Yankees by five games with seven to play.  The Yankees have clinched a playoff berth and have the inside track to host the Wild Card game, leading Minnesota by 4.5 games.  Amazingly, no one else in the league has a winning record.  The Twins have a five game lead over the Angels, who are two games under .500.

It looks like you'll see Minnesota at New York in the wild card game.  What happens after that remains to be seen  Right now Cleveland is just ahead of Houston in the race for the best record and they certainly have the advantage down the stretch, hosting Minnesota and the White Sox while the Astros have to travel to Texas and Boston.

It's likely you'll see Cleveland getting home field advantage and taking on the Yankees-Twins winner, while the Astros tangle with Boston.

NATIONAL LEAGUE:  Washington and Los Angeles have clinched their divisions.  The defending champion Cubs have a five game lead in the race for the Central title and are about to clinch.  Arizona has clinched a wild card berth and will host the wild card game.  The Colorado Rockies have a two game lead over Milwaukee and 2.5 over the Cardinals for the second wild card berth.  The Rockies host Miami and the Dodgers this week.  The Brewers have Cincinnati and St. Louis, while the Cardinals have the Cubs before facing the Brewers.

The Dodgers have all but clinched home field advantage and will likely host either Arizona or the second wild card winner, while the Cubs take on the Nationals.

An interesting thing to watch in the final week:  The Dodgers have the best record in baseball, but only by one game over Cleveland.  LA has San Diego and Colorado this week, while the Indians have Minnesota and the White Sox.

The wild card games are Tuesday and Wednesday, October 3 and 4.
