In a rough season for the New York Mets, the success of pitcher Matt Harvey gave Met fans one reason to be slightly optimistic for the future. In a season full of losses and turmoil, Harvey symbolized the little that was good for Mets nation.

Unfortunately, bad news just got worse for the Mets as espnnewyork.com reports that Harvey is headed to the disabled list for a partial elbow tear.

It is unclear if Harvey will need Tommy John surgery. Under that scenario, it's feasible that Harvey would not be able to return until 2015. It's not easy being a fan of that "other baseball team in New York."

After starting in the circle for the National League during July's All-Star game, Harvey continued his success, improving his record to 9-5 on an offensively challenged baseball team. His 2.27 ERA and 191 strikeouts are fourth best in the league
