LSU Crushes Texas A&M 54-39
As media reports of Tom Herman coming close to becoming the next LSU head coach swirled Thanksgiving night, the Tigers football team, led by interim coach Ed Orgeron, went into College Station and crushed Texas A&M by the score of 54-39.
Through the air and on the ground, the Tigers offense had a record setting night, accumulating 624 yards.
"Great job by our offense," said Orgeron. "We came out and wanted to be the more physical team and we did it."
For the first time in school history, LSU had a 300+ yard passer and 200+ yard rusher.
Without star running back Leonard Fournette, LSU destroyed the Aggies on the ground, rushing for 300 yards.
Sophomore running back Derrius Guice (pictured above) will want to keep the highlight tape, as he set the LSU single game rushing record with 285 yards on 37 carries, scoring 4 touchdowns.
"I'm just so happy for Derrius," said a smiling Orgeron to ESPN. "He just worked hard all week, along with our offensive line. What a great performance."
Quarterback Danny Etling had his best statistical game of the year, passing for 324 yards on 20-28 and 2 touchdowns.
"He's a warrior. He's a competitor," said Orgeron of Etling. "He managed the game well and we're all proud of him."
Wide receiver Russell Gage Jr. caught 5 passes for 62 yards and a score while receiver Malachi Dupre (pictured below) reeled in 1 touchdown pass, finishing the game with 4 catches for 50 yards.
With the victory, LSU closes the regular season at 7-4 (5-2 under Orgeron), awaiting word on where they'll play in a bowl.
However, the potential bowl game isn't the story at LSU. Who the next head coach will be is.
With multiple media reports suggesting LSU is closing in on a deal with Houston's Tom Herman as the next head coach, and LSU releasing a statement that no decision has been made, the backdrop of the coaching story overshadowed the Tigers win over the Aggies.
Orgeron is beloved by his players, who gave him a gatorade shower on the field following the win, before sharing videos on social media in the locker room, asking the Tigers to keep Orgeron.
