Traffic Halted in Abbeville While Road Rage Brawl Captured on Video
A typical Saturday morning in Abbeville turned chaotic when a brawl broke out at a major intersection. The incident occurred where Veterans Memorial Drive meets US-167, a major intersection in the city, causing traffic to be disrupted.
The video, posted by local resident Chris Jones, shows a dramatic altercation involving at least three to four men, allegedly sparked by road rage linked to a charity event. According to eyewitnesses, the dispute began when a motorcyclist participating in a Special Olympics poker run was reportedly helping to block traffic, which is said to have angered the driver of a grey sedan.
Footage from the scene opens up after the driver, wielding what appears to be a hammer, exited his vehicle to confront the biker. The confrontation quickly escalated, with both individuals grappling and falling to the ground as the hammer-like object was thrown into the street. During the brawl, another man got into the mix, striking one of the combatants, while a fourth, also a biker, intervened to help deescalate the situation.
Bystanders captured the incident on their phones, and the footage has since circulated on social media platforms, garnering hundreds of shares and a mix of reactions from the community. Some commenters expressed concern over the potential for severe injuries, while others criticized the actions of both parties involved.
"We are riding in that event and want to know the young guy’s name? We wanna tell him thank you or buy him a beer!" said one Facebook user. Another commenter highlighted the dangers of the altercation, stating, "This could have ended so bad had that man from the grey car's head hit that cement when they initially went down to the ground."
The Abbeville Police Department has been contacted for further information, but details about any potential charges or arrests have yet to be disclosed. The scene eventually cleared, and traffic resumed as normal.
We will update this story if any new details develop.
