SHREVEPORT, LA - Crime is a problem all across the state of Louisiana. In fact, it's a nationwide problem. Governor Jeff Landry has called lawmakers into special session next month to find ways to deal with crime. Some believe one of the priorities will be to roll back changes made in 2017 with the Justice Reinvestment Act. Thousands of prisoners were freed under that program.

Numbers show across many US cities, both violent and property crime is on the rise. Data from Property Club shows the most dangerous cities in the U.S. in 2023 were Memphis, St. Louis, and Oakland. But a Louisiana city makes the top 10 list.

What Cities in Texas and Louisiana Make the Top 10?

Lubbock is #8 on the list while New Orleans is #6.

The Report Says This About NOLA:

"Another one of the most dangerous cities in the US is New Orleans. Out of a population of 376,971, New Orleans has a crime rate of 5,864 per 100,000 people making it 150% higher than the national average. In 2022, there were 5,208 violent crimes in New Orleans, making the chance of falling victim to a violent crime 1 in 74. Out of that number, there were 201 murders, 1,106 robberies, and 3,200 assaults. There were also 18,098 property crimes in 2020, with 2,039 counts of burglary and 3,526 counts of vehicular assault."
