The final day of the 2014 Major League baseball season turned out to be a memorable one, indeed.

It was one that featured a no-hitter, the final game for a baseball legend, and two teams clinching playoff berths.

In Washington, the Nationals' Jordan Zimmermann threw the first no-hitter in franchise history, allowing only one walk, while striking out ten hitters.

Zimmermann's no-hitter was preserved when Nationals rookie Steven Souza Jr. made a sensational catch of Christian Yelich's drive to deep left-center.

In Boston, New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter delivered an RBI single in the top half of the third inning, which turned out to be the final at-bat of his illustrious 20-year career, and then exited to a standing ovation at Fenway Park.

The Yankees went on to win, 9-5, and Jeter officially finishes his career with 3,465 hits, which ranks sixth all-time.

In Detroit, the Tigers clinched their fourth-consecutive American League Cantral crown, defeating the Minnesota Twins, 3-1.

Finally, in Arlington, Texas, the Oakland A's secured a spot in the American League playoffs, clicnhing a wild card berth with a 4-0 shutout win over the Rangers.
