Detroit Lions Turn To Jim Caldwell As Their Head Coach

The Detroit Lions have selected Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell as their next head coach.

Caldwell, the former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, replaces Jim Schwartz, who was dismissed following the 2013 season, after five years at the helm.

The 58-year old Caldwell recorded an overall record of 26-22 as head man of the Colts, from 2009-2011, and coached the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV when they lost to the New Orleans Saints.

The Colts, under Caldwell, went 14-2 in 2009, 10-6 in 2010, and 2-14 in 2011, with playoff berths in the first two years.

Caldwell is also a former college head coach, accumulating an overall record of 26-63 in eight years (1993-2000) at Wake Forest.

The Lions, who have qualified for the playoffs only once since 2000, have never won a Super Bowl, and haven't won an NFL title since 1957.
