Lafayette native Daniel Cormier is the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion after making Anthony "Rumble" Johnson tap out in UFC 187.

Cormier takes the strap back to Acadiana after submitting Johnson with a rear naked choke in the third round of the prime time match. D.C. said he wanted to break Johnson's spirit, and he provided him zero space to breathe for the entire fight. After forcing him against the cage, slamming him to the mat and dropping serious blows from the top, the Northside High graduate finished things off in signature fashion. The fight almost ended several times. Pure domination.

The title belongs to Cormier. It's not an interim title. He's not holding it for anybody, and he made it very clear after the decisive victory. Jon "Bones" Jones was stripped of his title after turning himself in for a hit and run. Cormier is still more upset about Jones negative drug test results before their title bout. How about a rematch?

"Jon Jones, get your s%*& together," Cormier said in the ring after winning, "I'm waiting."

Will Jones accept the challenge? Dana White and time will dictate the answer, but until now, celebrate the new Light Heavyweight Champion and pride of Acadiana, Daniel Cormier.
