Bobby Valentine Will Be The New Athletic Director At Sacred Heart

The Connecticut Post is reporting that former Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine will be named athletic director at Sacred Heart University, replacing Don Cook, who is retiring July 1.

Valentine played sparingly in a ten-year Major League career that went from 1969-1979, collecting 441 career hits in a utility role.

He's best know for his work as a manager, winning 1,186 career games, over 16 years, with the Texas Rangers, New York Mets, and Boston Red Sox.

Valentine, who is also a former ESPN baseball analyst, managed the Red Sox last season to a 69-93 season, their worst record since 1965.

Sacred Heart is located in Fairfield, Conn., and is an NCAA Division I school.

With over 6,000 students, Sacred Heart is second-largest Catholic university in New England, behind only Boston College.

The Pioneers have 31 sports, 17 women's programs, and 14 men's programs.
