Andy Murray Defeats Novak Djokovic, Wins Wimbledon

Andy Murray became the first British man in 77 years to win Wimbledon on Sunday, after defeating Novak Djokovic, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4, in the men's final at the All England Club in London, England.

The 26-year old Murray, who was seeded second in the tournament, avenged a three-set defeat to Roger Federer in last year's final, and took home his second career Glad Slam crown, to go along with the 2012 U.S. Open Championship.

He becomes the first British man to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry, back in 1936.

The match, even though a straight-setter, still lasted three hours, and five minutes.

The top-seeded Djokovic, a six-time Grand Slam winner, certainly had his chances, going up a break in both the second and third sets, before dropping both. He was also up, 4-2, in the final set, before Murray won the last four games, and the historic match.

Murray won 72% on his first serve points, was successful on 7-of-17 in break points, and finished with nine aces, and 36 winners, while committing only 21 unforced errors, compared to 40 for Djokovic.

Djokovic, the 2011 Wimbledon winner, won 59% of his first serves, but was only successful on 4-of-13 on break points.

Murray, picks up a check of  over $2.4 million dollars for winning the event, while Djokovic has to settle for the $1.2 million consolation prize.
