A-Rod to Play Final Game Friday
The New York Yankees, in a Sunday morning press conference, announced Alex Rodriguez will appear in his final game Friday and then become a special adviser and instructor with the ball club.
The Yankees will owe him the remainder of his $21 million salary for this year and $21 million next year.
After Friday's game, Rodriguez will be given his unconditional release and will then sign his adviser/instructor contract, which will expire December 31, 2017.
Rodriguez never got untracked this season, hitting just .209 with nine homers and 29 RBI in 61 games.
Rodriguez was suspended for the entire 2014 season after admitting to using performance enhancing drugs for the second time in his career. He has three MVP awards and 696 career homers, fourth on the all-time list. He was a 14-time all star in 19 full seasons in the major leagues.
