Bruce Van De Velde, Director of Athletics at Louisiana Tech since the departure of Derek Dooley, will step down from his position effective July 1.  Van De Velde was Dooley's associate AD for two years prior to his appointment.

Although the resignation is effective July 1, Van De Velde will remain at the university in a "non-administrative support capacity" until his current contract expires in February of next year.  The Shreveport Times reported the story in its online edition Thursday morning.

The story outlines Louisiana Tech's accomplishments under Van De Velde, including the initiation of the "Quest for Excellence" campaign to finance the construction of a multi-purpose facility in the South end of Joe Aillet Stadium.  Construction has not yet begun, even though Tech issued a request for proposal back in January of 2011.

But Van De Velde was heavily criticized back in November when his failure to commit to a bowl resulted in Louisiana Tech sitting home after the 2012 season, despite a 9-3 record and one of the best statistical offenses in the nation.
