Thunder Guard Russell Westbrook Out Indefinitely

One of the biggest NBA postseason injuries in years has shaken up the Western conference.

Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook, a three-time All-Star and Olympic gold medalist, is OUT indefinitely after tearing meniscus in his right knee on Wednesday night.

Thunder officials have released no timetable about a possible return, as Westbrook is scheduled to undergo knee surgery to repair the meniscus in the next few days.

Oklahoma City, the top seed in the West, currently leads the 8 seeded Houston Rockets 2-0 in the first round of the playoffs. If Westbrook is unable to return, the Thunder go from being the favorite to represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals, to a team with an extremely tough road to hoe moving forward.

The injury occurred in the second quarter when Rockets rookie guard Patrick Beverly attempted to steal the ball from Westbrook just as Russell was leaning across the half court line to call a timeout. Westbrook remained in the game, and played the majority of the second half, helping OKC slip by the underdog Rockets 105-102.

Game 3 of the match up takes place tomorrow night in Houston. Tip-off is set for 8:30.
