Rafael Nadal, a two-time Wimbledon champion and owner of 12 grand slam singles titles, was bounced in the first round of Wimbledon today by relative unknown Steve Darcis of Belgium.

Darcis ended Nadal's 22-match winning streak with a straight sets vcitory of 7-6 (4), 7-6 (8), 6-4. It was as impressive as it was shocking. Darcis, 29-years old, seemed to be as stunnned about his improbable win as Nadal was.

"Rafa Nadal didn't play his best tennis today," explained Darcis. "The first match on grass is always difficult. It's his first one. Of course, it's a big win. I tried to come to the net as soon as I could, not play too far from the baseline. I think it worked pretty good today."

Nadal, who is ranked 5th in the world and is coming off an 8th French Open championship, appeared to be riding a wave of momentum. That wave died thanks to the scrappy Darcis who is ranked 135th in the world.
