Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly announced on Wednesday that junior Everett Golson will be the team's starting quarterback when the Fighting Irish begin play in 2014.

Golson, who beat out redshirt freshman Malik Zaire for the starting job, missed all of 2013, after being suspended from the university for an academic violation.

As a redshirt freshman in 2012, Golson completed 187-of-318 passes for 2,405 yards, along with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions, while leading Notre Dame to an unbeaten regular season, and a berth in the BCS title game.

Golson, who is 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, also rushed for 298 yards and six touchdowns in 2012.
