Latest CFP Committee Rankings Has A (Slight) Shakeup
After three of the top four in the College Football Playoff rankings lost over the weekend, this week's rankings were pretty widely anticipated.
The result: No huge shakeup
Alabama is still #1 in the rankings, as expected. Ohio State, who won 62-3, vaulted up to #2 because of the losses. Michigan stays in the top four at #3 while Clemson, a loser to Pittsburgh, stayed in the top four as well.
Louisville moved up a spot to #5, while Washington, who lost to a solid USC team, dropped to #6.
It's interesting to note it's possible neither Ohio State nor Michigan will get the opportunity to play for their conference title. Penn State, who beat Ohio State earlier, checks in at #8. If the Nittany Lions win out and Ohio State beats Michigan, Penn State would be the division champion.
Four teams in the top ten are from the Big Ten. Wisconsin is ranked seventh. Oklahoma of the Big 12 and Colorado of the Pac-12 round out the top ten.
LSU moved up to #16 this week after their win over Arkansas. Auburn (15), Tennessee (19), Florida (23) and Texas A&M (25) are the other ranked SEC teams.
Boise State is the highest ranked team in the Group of Five at #20, but the rules state in order to get into a New Years Six bowl, the Group of Five representative must be a conference champion. Boise State, who lost to Wyoming earlier, would not qualify for the title game if the Cowboys do not lose again. Wyoming is a home underdog to San Diego State this week.
Western Michigan, the only undefeated team besides Alabama, is #21 this week.
